Do you have trouble controlling or taming your hair? Check out our home remedies for dry and frizzy hair to help keep your locks healthy and smooth.

Dry and frizzy hair go hand in hand, as frizziness happens when hair lacks moisture. If you notice that your hair tends to get frizzier on damp and humid days, you’re not alone. Hair pulls moisture from the air, causing it to swell up instead of lying flat.

Luckily, some simple home remedies for dry and frizzy hair use all-natural ingredients to help make your hair shiny and healthy. We’ve compiled the best tried and tested methods. Leave your frizz behind with these easy DIYs!

1. Hot Oil Treatment

Hot oil has long been a home remedy for lackluster locks, and with good reason. Certain plant-based oils are rich in antioxidants and vitamin E. These add moisture and seal hair’s outer layer, reducing frizz. For best results, source organic and fair trade versions of the following oils for hot oil treatments:

Once you’ve chosen your preferred oil, follow the steps below.

  1. Warm ½ cup of your chosen oil and massage it into your hair.
  2. Cover your hair with a warm towel for at least 45 minutes or overnight for the best results.
  3. When you’re ready, shampoo and rinse your hair.

2. Avocado Hair Mask

Avocado hair masks are a moisturizing treat for your hair. They’re also a great way to use overripe avocados. With vitamins A and E and high moisture content, this fruit can nourish and tame even the driest and frizziest tresses.

To take advantage of this home remedy for dry and frizzy hair, mash a medium-sized avocado and stir in 3 tablespoons of organic coconut oil until you have a nice mask consistency. Spread the mixture on your hair, cover it with a shower cap or towel, and leave it in for at least 30 minutes. When you’re finished, hop in the shower and rinse with shampoo.

3. Banana Paste

Due to their high moisture and silica content, bananas are an ideal solution for unruly hair. Silica is a mineral element that helps your body produce collagen, a protein necessary for healthy hair.

To reap the benefits, mash one banana and spread it evenly over your hair. Leave the banana paste for roughly an hour and rinse out with tepid water. For an extra moisturizing boost, add one tablespoon of coconut oil to the banana paste before spreading it on your hair.

4. Leave-In Conditioner

Leave-in conditioners work much like regular conditioners. They give your hair that extra bit of moisture and softness. The main difference is that you apply them after you’re finished in the shower and don’t rinse them out. You should notice less overall frizz after adding extra moisture to your locks.

Look for conditioners specifically designed to be left in. The one you have in your shower doesn’t necessarily double as a leave-in solution. Luckily, we have you covered with our 6 DIY leave-in conditioners

It might seem counterintuitive, but what you eat directly impacts your hair. If you’re looking to fix your hair through your meals, make sure to eat food high in antioxidants and omega-3s. These foods will improve the health of your hair and benefit your entire body. Incorporating the following items into your diet is another natural home remedy for dry and frizzy hair:
