The Tesla Model 3, which is 100 percent leather-free including even the steering wheel, has been approved by New York City’s Taxi and Limousine Commission to join the famous city fleet. This will be the first electric car approved for the fleet, and it has also been approved for use as Uber and Lyft.
In a Bloomberg survey this month, 99 percent of 5000 drivers who had purchased the Model 3 unanimously approved of the vehicle and said they would recommend it to family and friends, with 98% saying they would purchase it again.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk predicted that there would be self-driving Tesla taxis by some time next year, although strict traffic laws mean this would be unlikely to happen in New York. Tesla’s upcoming Model Y will also be fully vegan when it arrives to market in 2020.
