Learning how to get ants out of your house using eco-friendly and cruelty-free fixes will rid your home of these pesky insects, without using chemicals with unclear effects on health and ecosystem, or killing the ants.

When ants get into your house, they can really take over. These pesky little insects start turning up everywhere and it can be tricky to get them out. There are chemical solutions to getting rid of ants from your house, but this not only kills the ants, it is also harmful to your family members and pets inside your home.

Follow this guide and learn how you can get ants out of your house quickly and ethically using all-natural and eco-friendly fixes. If the ants are bothering you somewhere outside your home, for example at a picnic, try these natural ant repellents.

1. Vinegar Spray

Ants hate the smell of vinegar. To make your own vinegar spray, combine one cup of white vinegar with one cup of lemon juice. Combine these in a spray bottle by shaking. Spray your homemade vinegar solution along window panes and door frames and anywhere else you have noted that ants are entering your house.

This will not only get rid of the ants already in your house, but will deter further ants from entering.

Vinegar is useful as a home remedy in many other ways, too — such as for cleaning, in a carpet cleaner with baking soda. You can also use apple cider vinegar as a foot soak, or for hair care.

2. Use Cinnamon to Get Ants out of the House Quickly

This eco-friendly solution to invasive ants in your house could not be easier. Ants also hate the smell of cinnamon. So, sprinkling cinnamon or placing cinnamon sticks along the bottom of doors and along windowsills will keep them away.

If ants are invading your house plants, stick a cinnamon stick in the soil to deter them.

You can also use cinnamon sticks for many other things, from cooking to skincare.

3. Essential Oils

Get ants out of the house quickly — the fragrant way. Essential oils are a real enemy for ants. The strong scent breaks up their pheromone trail, and so works wonders to get rid of ants from your house.

To make an essential oil spray, you will need to combine ½ a cup of white vinegar with 15 drops of peppermint essential oil in a spray bottle. Shake to combine. Spray onto areas where you see ants and get them out of your house as fast as they came in. Certain essential oils also work to repel mosquitoes!

Bonus, this will also make your house smell fresh and clean!

4. Move Your Bins to Keep Ants out

Ants are attracted to food waste. If your compost and trash bins are placed near your house or lawn, this could draw ants closer to your house and eventually, inside. Place your bins as far away from your house as you can to avoid ants entering as much as possible.

5. Clean Up Your Crumbs

Just as ants are attracted to food waste in your bins, they are equally attracted to food waste inside your house. Make sure to clean up any crumbs or bits of food that may have fallen under tables and sofas to not give ants a reason to enter your house.
