There are a number of delicious uses for nutritional yeast in plant-based cooking. Nutritional yeast is the vegan answer to all things cheesy, creamy, and eggy.

Nutritional yeast is the new star of vegan cooking. As the name suggests, nutritional yeast is made from yeast. It is made using the same yeast bakers use to leaven bread, but is inactivated and then pasturized to dry it out. Nutritional yeast resembles small and dried flakes, a bit like shards of parmesan, and has a naturally cheesy and nutty flavor. This makes it a great plant-based addition to vegan cooking, as it replicates the flavor and texture of cheese.

Nutritional yeast can be used in a number of delicious and plant-based ways. From creamy sauces, to vegan eggs and parmesan shards, nutritional yeast should be the new addition to your diet. Here are just some tasty ways to use nutritional yeast.

1. Tofu Scrambled Eggs

Nutritional yeast has the added perk of replicating an eggy flavor. Next time you have a craving for scrambled eggs, try making tofu scrambled eggs and add a couple of tablespoons of nutritional yeast. This will not only give your vegan scrambled eggs that sought-after taste, but will also help to make them creamy and smooth.

2. Creamy Cheese Sauce

Nutritional yeast melts really well, meaning you can easily incorporate it into a creamy vegan sauce to replicate that same delicious cheesy flavor we all love. Try adding nutritional yeast to a white sauce for a creamy vegan Mac and cheese.

3. Vegan Pesto

Another one of the many uses for nutritional yeast is vegan pesto. It’s very simple to make, as you can simply substitute nutritional yeast for parmesan cheese in our homemade pesto recipe. You don’t need to miss our on that rich and cheesy green sauce just because you’re vegan.

4. Cheesy Kale Chips

Kale chips are a tempting salty snack to enjoy on their own, or sprinkled on top of salads and veggie dishes. Make these vegetable chips even more addictive by sprinkling nutritional yeast over them before roasting them in the oven. You will not be able to get enough of these plant-based, cheesy chips!

5. Egg-Free Quiche

Vegan quiches can be made using tofu instead of egg to replicate the texture of a traditional egg-based quiche. But, thanks to nutritional yeast, vegan quiches can now be made to also taste like a traditional quiche, with its egg-like flavor and creamy texture once cooked.

6. Vegan Eggplant Parmesan

Eggplant parmesan is a tasty Italian dish, whose one main ingredient is parmesan. No need to worry all the vegans out there though, because you can easily replace the parmesan in this dish with nutritional yeast and still cook up a rich, Italian culinary storm that is just as crisp and cheesy.
