Dark circles under the eyes or “panda eyes” are pretty common, and there can be a variety of causes. The good news is, that there are some home remedies that you can use to treat them.

Dark circles under the eyes can occur at any age and for a few different reasons. The main factor causing dark circles under the eyes is genetics — some people are just more prone to them than others. On top of this, as we age, dark circles under the eyes become more common as the skin on our face thins or if our eyes become puffy, it can cause dark shadows under the eyes.

Dark circles under the eyes may or may not be related to your health; they are often exacerbated by tiredness or fatigue. Other causes can be allergies, iron deficiency, sun exposure, smoking, or drinking alcohol.

Thankfully there are various home remedies available that won’t break the bank and will leave your eyes feeling fresh again. Read on for seven home remedies for dark circles under the eyes.

1. Cold Tea Bag Soak Against Dark Circles

The caffeine in tea reduces the size of blood vessels and improves circulation because caffeine is a vasoconstrictor. Just brew two tea bags in hot water for five minutes and then refrigerate them for a further twenty minutes. Remove from the refrigerator and lie down, place the cold tea bags on your eyes for ten to twenty minutes. Afterward, rinse your eyes with cold water.

2. Use a Cold Compress to Reduce Puffy Eyes and Dark Circles

To reduce puffy eyes and swelling, a cold compress will help to shrink the size of blood vessels under the eyes. Just wrap a few ice cubes in a facecloth, lie down and place it on your eyes for about twenty minutes. Alternatively, wet a facecloth with cold water and place it on your eyes.

Coconut oil has lots of topical benefits, one is in assisting in reducing the dark circles under our eyes. Apply cold-pressed, organic virgin coconut oil to the area under the eyes, ensuring that the skin is clean. Massage into the skin for thirty seconds per eye, before sleep.

If you have never used coconut oil on your skin before, it is best to do a skin test first. Apply a small amount of coconut oil to a thin area of skin, such as behind the ear. If no irritation occurs in twenty-four hours you can safely use coconut oil under your eyes.
