Gardein, a trademark of Conagra Brands, Inc. (NYSE: CAG), is entering the meatlike vegan burger category with the Ultimate Beefless Burger. According to the manufacturer, Gardein’s new veggie product promises a burger experience comparable to meat without compromises.
Gardein produces a range of meat alternatives including its popular frozen fish products, chicken tenders, and crabcakes, which are available in retail across North America and its territories including the Caribbean. In November 2014, Pinnacle Foods purchased the company for $154 million.
For many consumers, burgers are the entry into the category of meat alternatives. Following trends in the market, Gardein has developed the plant-based Ultimate Burger, which imitates the taste of real beef, without soy or GM ingredients. The product weighs just under 115g and is made from pea protein such as several of its peers. Each patty offers 19 grams of protein.
