If you’ve made homemade lemonade before, this should be a fairly simple process. Instead of making a plain simple syrup, you make a ginger infused version for a zingy twist on the classic.

Ingredients:

  • Ginger syrup
    • 2 cups water
    • 1 cup raw organic sugar
    • 1 cup ginger, peeled and chopped
  • 1½ cups freshly squeezed organic lemon juice
  • 4 cups water (still or sparkling)
  • Optional: herbs for garnish

Ginger Syrup Instructions:

  1. In a small saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil, then add the raw sugar, and stir until completely dissolved.
  2. Add the chopped ginger to the pot, reduce the heat, and cover. Simmer for at least 10 minutes, or 15 for a stronger ginger flavor.
  3. Remove from heat, and allow to cool to room temperature before straining the ginger from the syrup.
  4. Pour the syrup into an airtight container, and store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

How to Make Ginger Lemonade:

  1. Add 1½ cups of homemade ginger syrup to a large pitcher, then add the lemon juice.
  2. Top up with water, until the taste is to your preference.
  3. Finish off with optional herbs like thyme, basil, or rosemary, and ice cubes.

Tip: when serving, garnish each glass with candied lemon slices.
