How to Make Spiced Apple Cider
In order to make the best spiced apple cider, you will need a few items.
Needed items
- cutting board
- knife
- wooden spoon
- large pot
- masher
- sieve/strainer
- containers to hold cider
Ingredients
- 10-12 apples, (Honeycrisp are a great choice for flavor; always remember to buy local or organic when possible)
- about 16 cups water, enough to cover apples in pan
- 1/2 cup sweetener, your choice, maple syrup or brown sugar are great options
- 4 cinnamon sticks, whole
- 1 tbsp nutmeg
- 2 tsp allspice
- 1 tbsp cinnamon, ground
- 1 tsp cloves
- optional: add orange slices and other dried spices like ginger for a more varied cider flavor.
Instructions
- Cut the apples into quarters, remove the core and seeds, and place in the pot.
- Add the dry ingredients, cinnamon sticks, and sugar to the pot and cover with water, and stir.
- Bring the mixture to a boil on high heat, then reduce heat to medium/low and let sit for 2 hours.
- Remove from heat once the apples are soft, and using the masher, mash the apples until they are pulp.
- Strain the mixer through a sieve or strainer to remove large chunks.
- Serve and enjoy immediately, or let cool and refrigerate for cold cider. The mixture can be refrigerated for up to 5 days or frozen in the freezer for up to 3 months.
