Kiwi is the perfect refreshing snack for warm summer days. Freezing kiwi is easy, but there is only one way to do it right: that is, as purée.

Kiwi is an excellent source of vitamin C and adds a nice pop of color to any fruit platter. It is grown all over the world, though domestic cultivation takes place on the west coast, in states like California, Oregon, and Washington.

Kiwi will last several days at room temperature, and up to 4 weeks when refrigerated. If that’s not enough time for you, you can easily freeze kiwi and store it for several months in the freezer. When it’s time to freeze kiwi, be sure to choose fruit that is fully ripe — you can tell by pressing gently with your fingers; if the fruit feels slightly soft to the touch, it’s ready. Learn how to easily freeze kiwi with this simple method.

The best way to freeze kiwi is as purée. It doesn’t take up much space in your freezer and it can be utilized in many different ways. Unless you’re allergic to kiwi skin, you can eat the entire fruit — the skin contains a lot of valuable fiber.

Making Kiwi Purée

  1. Take the kiwis you want to freeze, and give them a good wash in the sink.
  2. Place the whole kiwis into a blender, and blitz until smooth.
  3. Alternatively, you can remove the skin and blitz the green kiwi fruit.

How to Freeze Kiwi Purée

  1. Pour the kiwi purée into ice cube trays, or another mold.
  2. Place in the freezer for 4-6 hours, or until the kiwi is frozen.
  3. Transfer the kiwi cubes to a sealable and reusable container and store in the freezer for up to 3 months.
