Skip the deep fryer and fry your funnel cakes in a pan – this limits the oil that will be absorbed into the dough, resulting in fewer calories and less fat. This homemade funnel cake recipe takes about 30 minutes, and yields 5 funnel cakes – so invite your friends over to enjoy these tasty treats. 

Ingredients: 

  • 2½ cups whole wheat flour 
  • 4 tbsp organic cane sugar 
  • pinch of salt 
  • 1 tsp baking powder 
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract 
  • 2 cups homemade oat milk (or other plant-based milk of your choice)
  • ¼ cup organic sunflower oil  
  • 2 tbsp organic canola oil (for frying) 

Instructions: 

  1. Sift together flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder in a large bowl. Then stir in the oat milk, sunflower oil, and vanilla extract. 
  2. Pour the batter into a piping bag, or small pitcher. 
  3. Heat the canola oil in the bottom of a large frying pan or skillet. 
  4. Pour or pipe the batter into the hot pan in a circular/spiral pattern, and allow it to cook until nicely golden brown, and then flip to cook the other side. 
  5. Remove from the pan, and repeat with the rest of the batter, until all homemade funnel cakes are made.
