By learning how to store raspberries properly, you can keep them fresher for longer and get more enjoyment out of this delicious summer fruit. Let’s take a look.

Raspberries seem to go bad as soon as you bring them home from the store. If you don’t want to rush and eat them all in one go, you’ll need to learn how to store raspberries properly. By extending their shelf-life, you have more time to make tasty vegan treats like vegan cheesecake, vegan ice creambaked oats, and boozy popsicles.

In order to make the most of your raspberries, there are a few steps you need to take before placing them in the fridge. This is known as the rinsing method, and can be used on other soft fruits like strawberries or blueberries.

  1. Go through your container and pick out any bad or moldy raspberries, as they can affect the entire batch.
  2. Combine ¼ cup white vinegar with ¾ cup of water, then soak your raspberries in this mixture for a few seconds to kill off any bacteria.
  3. Lightly dry off your raspberries using a paper towel, or paper towel alternative
  4. Store them in a breathable container lined with paper towels or alternatives to absorb any excess moisture.
  5. Place the container in the fridge, preferably towards the front, and in the center – avoid the vegetable drawer, as it’s too cold.

With this method you can prolong the shelf-life to nearly 1 week.

If you find yourself with more raspberries than you know what to do with, you can also freeze them in order to preserve their summer fresh flavor. Simply pick out the bad or moldy raspberries, spread the rest out on a baking tray, and place it in the freezer until the berries are frozen through. Once they’re frozen, pack them into an airtight freezer container, and store for up to 1 year.
