1. Egg Carton Crafts: A Colorful Caterpillar

Egg carton crafts for kids are a great way to make an afternoon at home fun. You can use egg cartons to create a variety of animals. A favorite among children is to make a colorful Very Hungry Caterpillar.  You’ll need the following materials:

  • 1 egg carton
  • Acrylic paint in various colors 
  • Paintbrush
  • Googly eyes
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Pipe cleaner 

Tip: If you don’t have glue at home, or you’re worried about the fumes that craft glue might give off, try making your own homemade glue for kids.

  1. Remove the top part of the egg carton, and cut the bottom in half.
  2. Cut the edge of the carton as evenly as possible.
  3. Paint using the colors of your choice and let dry.
  4. Glue the googly eyes onto the caterpillar’s face and attach the pipe cleaner in the shape of two small antennae to the head.

2. DIY Egg Cups

Your crafts don’t have to be something to make just for fun, they can also be useful. What kid wouldn’t want to eat their egg out of an egg cup that they made themselves? Here’s what you’ll need for this egg carton craft:

  • 1 egg carton
  • Paint (acrylic or watercolors)
  • Brush
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Red and orange construction paper 
  • Googly eyes
  1. Separate the lid of the egg carton.
  2. Cut off the corner pieces of the egg carton.
  3. Paint the egg carton with white paint and let it dry. 
  4. Cut out an orange beak and a red comb for the chicken.
  5. Glue the googly eyes, comb and beak to the chicken.
  6. Enjoy your hardboiled egg in your chicken egg cup! 

3. Crafting with Egg Cartons: A Colorful Sea of Flowers

Bring spring indoors at any time of the year with this egg carton flower craft. In just a few simple steps, you can create your own flower meadow. All you need for your flowers is:

  • 1 egg carton
  • Scissors
  • Acrylic paint
  • Brush
  1. Cut out the individual egg compartments.
  2. Cut them to make a flower shape.
  3. Paint your flowers with colorful acrylic paint.
  4. Let the flowers dry, then you can decorate your windowsill or coffee table with beautiful flowers.

4. Egg Carton Goggles

Make playing dress-up even more fun with your hand-crafted egg carton goggles. They can be used for space exploration, underwater adventures, or for young superheroes. Here’s what you’ll need for this kids’ egg carton craft: 

  • 1 egg carton
  • Paint
  • String
  • Scissors 
  1. Remove the top half of the egg carton and cut out the egg cups in pairs.
  2. Paint your goggles however you like and let them dry. 
  3. Once dried, cut two eye holes out of the egg cups and pierce the two sides with scissors. 
  4. Loop a piece of string through the pierced holes and knot it, creating the band for your goggles. 

5. Snowmen

Egg carton snowmen are the perfect seasonal egg carton craft for kids. Whether you want them for winter decoration, or as a reminder of cooler weather when the summer heat seems endless, these simple snowmen are adorable and fun to make. You’ll need: 

  • 1 egg carton 
  • Pom poms 
  • Pipe cleaner 
  • Markers 
  • Paint
  • Googly eyes
  • Scissors 
  • Glue
  • Felt 

Cut out 3 cups from the egg carton, paint them white, and let dry. 

Create earmuffs by gluing the pom poms onto the end of a small piece of pipe cleaner.

Make a scarf from the felt, and add some frays to the end. 

Using pipe cleaner, make the arms for the snowman. 

Glue the earmuffs, scarf, googly eyes, and arms to your snowman.

Draw on a nose and some buttons using your markers to complete your snowman!
