Knowing how to get smooth legs at home could save you expensive trips to the salon. You do not need over-priced, commercial products – simply use these natural remedies instead.
How to Get Smooth Legs: 1. Dry Brush
Dry brushing is a super simple technique you can apply to your everyday beauty and showering routine to get smooth, beautiful legs all year round. Dry brushing sloughs off dead skin cells, promotes circulation and helps your legs absorb more moisture. So before you jump in the shower, use a dry brush on your legs, rubbing in an upward motion.
2. Use SPF Sunscreen
We all know to use SPF (Sun Protection Factor) sunscreen on our face to protect it from UV rays, but many of us tend to forget about our legs. However, our legs are just as sensitive to the sun’s harsh rays, and can suffer from dryness if not treated. 30 minutes before heading out into the sun, make sure to apply generous amounts of natural sunscreen to your legs.
Did you know? Sunscreen can affect your health and the ocean, so it’s important to choose the right one. You can check out which physical sunscreen brands we recommend here: How to Choose UV Protection: Physical Sunscreen vs. Chemical Sunscreen
3. Moisturize Your Legs
Moisturizing your legs after showering will make them feel smoother. However, it seems to be less a part of people’s daily routines than moisturizing one’s face is. Make sure not to skip this step and get into the habit of moisturizing your legs with natural moisturizers after showering.
Natural moisturizers are better for you, the planet, and your wallet, so we really recommend using them. Plus, you probably already have one in your pantry. Natural moisturizers you can use to get smooth skin on your legs include coconut oil, shea butter, aloe vera gel and olive oil.
4. Apply Body Oil at Night
Applying body oil to your legs before going to bed is said to as a barrier to locking moisture in. Meaning you might wake up with smoother, softer skin on your legs. We recommend using organic brands.
5. Get Smooth Legs With the Right Razor
Shaving your legs can be harsh on the skin, so make sure you are using a good razor. Switching the blades out regularly will help keep the skin on your legs get smoother for longer. If you want to avoid waste, you can switch to zero waste razors like leaf shave, where you’ll only need to renew the blades. Be sure to shave with soap or shaving cream in order to avoid razor bumps – and check out these remedies to get rid of bumps from shaving, should they appear.
6. Exfoliate Your Legs to Help Them Get Smooth
Exfoliating your skin may help you get smoother legs. By applying DIY scrubs to your feet and legs, you can easily slough away dead skin cells and encourage circulation. Simply wet and gently scrub your skin, rinse thoroughly and moisturize afterwards. You’ll find scrub recipes and more detailed instructions here: How to Exfoliate Skin Naturally at Home
7. Cold Shower Circulation
We’ve all heard about the health benefits of a cold shower, but did you also know that it’s also supposed to help make your legs smoother? Switching the shower to cold just five seconds before you hop out, and running the water over your legs will induce circulation, which is supposed to help your skin absorb more moisture afterwards.
8. Better Than Waxing: Sugaring
Many women use waxing to get smooth legs, as this method removes hair quickly and very thoroughly. But waxing has its downsides: Contaminated wax from waxing salons may cause acne or bumpy skin.
We recommend giving sugaring a try. You can easily make the sugaring mix yourself using water, lemon juice and sugar. If you do not use it all, you can simply put the rest of the sugaring mix in the fridge to use next time – so this method produces next to no waste at all.
